From Trusted Grower ...

For much of our history, Smith & Munson grew flowers for the wholesale market, building long-standing relationships and a reputation for consistent quality within the flower industry.

Wholesale remains an important part of what we do, but the ways our flowers reach customers have grown considerably.

... To British Flower Brand

Today, we supply wholesalers across the country, alongside leading retailers and some of the UK’s most respected high-end florists. These professional customers rely on us for outstanding flowers, reliable volumes and carefully selected varieties that meet their exacting standards.

In 2020, we launched our website and began sending flowers directly from our farm to homes across the UK. For the first time, we could speak directly to the people enjoying our flowers and share more of the farm, the seasons and the work behind every stem.

Since then, our direct-to-consumer business has become an important part of Smith & Munson. It gives our customers access to extraordinary varieties, generous quantities and farm-fresh British flowers that might previously have been available only within the trade.

The scale may differ enormously from one order to the next, but the flowers do not. Whether we are preparing thousands of stems for a retailer, selecting varieties for a florist or packing a box for someone’s home, the same standards apply.

Every flower is grown by us, with care, and every customer matters.

From Our Farm To Your Home

Across the seasons, we grow tulips, peonies, lilies and RoseLilies, from much loved classics to extraordinary varieties chosen for their colour, shape, character and scent.

Your flowers are picked at just the right moment, carefully packed here on the farm and sent directly to your door. There is no unnecessary journey through markets or wholesalers: just properly fresh, British grown flowers and you will always know it is genuinely from the people who grew them.

Our family name appears on every tube and box that leaves the farm.

We take immense pride in that, and we hope opening your flowers brings you as much excitement as growing them brought us.

Proudly supporting British

Choosing Smith & Munson means choosing much more than a box of flowers.

Wherever possible, we work with and support other British businesses, from the people who help us package and deliver our flowers to the talented makers, suppliers and creatives with whom we collaborate.

We are also proud champions of British farming and horticulture. We believe in celebrating the skill, resilience and care of farmers and growers across the UK, while helping more people understand the value of choosing something grown closer to home.

Choosing British grown flowers helps preserve specialist growing knowledge and skilled jobs while supporting the future of commercial flower growing here in the UK.

Growing For The Future

We are proud of our heritage, but we have never been interested in standing still.

Our flowers are grown using modern glasshouses and specialist techniques that create the right conditions for every crop.

We continually trial new varieties, refine the way we grow and invest in technology that helps us become more efficient and use resources more carefully.

Automation has become an important part of modern tulip production on the farm. Our automated tulip bunching line, known as a Furora, is one of the most important pieces of machinery we own.

For a tulip grower, its importance is much like that of a combine harvester to an arable farmer. It enables us to process large volumes efficiently while maintaining the consistency and quality we expect from every bunch.

We have also invested in a tulip planting robot.

Our annual crop of around 10 million tulip bulbs can now be planted with one member of the team moving boxes and overseeing the machine to make sure everything is planted correctly.

What was once an extremely labour-intensive job can now be carried out far more efficiently.

Rainwater collected from 22,500 square metres of glasshouse and shed roofs is stored in our farm reservoir and used to irrigate our flowers.

The reservoir has also become a valuable habitat, with ducks regularly enjoying the water and oystercatchers returning to the farm each year.

In 2022, we returned to growing flowers outdoors and planted our first two acres of peonies.

We waited patiently for the plants to establish for three years before our first harvest, knowing that a well-cared-for peony plant can continue producing flowers for decades.

We have since expanded to 15 acres, making this a crop planted as much for the future as it is for today.

Opening the farm directly to customers in 2020 introduced Smith & Munson to a completely new audience. Since then, thousands of people have chosen to have our flowers in their homes, send them as gifts and return to us as the seasons change.

That support has only been possible because people have chosen our flowers, trusted us with meaningful gifts, recommended us to friends and returned to us season after season. We never take that for granted.

Every order plays a part in what happens next on this farm from the new varieties we trial to the crops we plant and the investments we make for the future.

When you choose Smith & Munson, you are choosing British flowers grown by a family that has been doing this for five generations, alongside a team who care deeply about what leaves the farm and those who receive our flowers.

Thank you for being part of the next chapter.
